A Look At The Boston Terrier
Boston Terriers are a breed of dog that is on the smaller side. Characteristics of the breed and breed standards say that your dog should weigh no less than 10 pounds, but no more than 25 pounds. This breed originated in the United States. Temperament of this breed ranged from eager to please their masters, to more on the stubborn side. These dogs are very friendly, lovable and very strong. However your dogs temperament is, with a very patient and assertive owner your dog can be trained.
Not everyone who owns or wants to buy a Boston Terrier puppy or dog wants to do so to show them. Pedigrees and papers are nice to have. Often with inbreeding and mixing of the breeds your animal may not be a true Boston Terrier. If you go to a breeder specifically for a papered Boston Terrier you can find some on dog web sites or in the newspapers, or magazines. Look for ads that say Boston terrier puppies for sale. If you are not specifically looking for a puppy but want a dog that is still young a good breeder may be able to help you.
Boston Terriers can trace their origins back to cross breeding between an Old English Bulldog and an English White Terrier. Boston Terriers were originally bred to be companion dogs and are AKC categorized in the non-sporting group. Many Boston Terriers are not able to tolerate overly hot or overly cold temperatures.
Many health problems that affect Boston Terriers include cataracts, cherry eye, patella problems, deafness, sensitive stomachs, heart murmurs, and allergies.
Getting Boston Terrier puppies for sale through a newspaper or magazine is possible, just be sure that you observe the puppies parents and meet the dog owners over several visits to observe the health of the dog family. If it seems risky the only thing you will have lost is a few puppy visits and time. Find a friend who has Boston Terriers and see if they will sell you one. Look on Breeders web sites, or dog for sale web sites. Sometimes you can get really lucky and find a Boston Terrier at a shelter or the ASPCA. Sometime these businesses will help you find good healthy Boston Terriers or they know of a reputable owner of breeder who has them for sale.
Sometimes a good quality pet store will have Boston Terriers or Boston terrier puppies for sale but as with breeders ask a lot of questions observe the dogs closely and come back often to look around before you buy. Check with the Better business Bureau to see of any pet stores or breeders have violations filed with them.
